As a Poly Reps University Ambassador, I was often the first face that people encounter when visiting Cal Poly. We provide award-winning tour experiences to prospective students, alumni, and university affiliates interested in learning more about the place that we call home. By constantly meeting new groups of different perspectives, I am actively refining my ability to speak in a public setting, form an argument, relate to those unlike myself, and create genuine, lasting impressions. We are a student-led group of 45 tasked with being the face of 24,000 and it is a position in which I take great pride.

As a part of the Advanced Manufacturing Group, I gained experience in process characterization, engineering management, and automation for class 3 medical devices. I was an integral team member of the NPD Access Shaft team to develop processes for dispensing silicone lubrication leading up to Early Human Use applications. I designed studies, coordinated material flow, and assisted the product team as necessary to support Design Verification builds. Also, I managed the integration of next-generation reflow technology to improve the reliability of sheath processing in a commercial setting, producing up to 300k units per year. Finally, I was given the space to explore exciting new applications for 6-axis robotics in a production setting, becoming an advocate for its use across business units.

In a rapidly expanding, small-business atmosphere, I was responsible for assisting the development of next-generation lines of commercial racking solutions. I worked with a global team of about 5 to generate the design, coordinate the fabrication, and identify shipping solutions for my particular product line. I was also personally responsible for enhancing rapid prototyping abilities by bringing 3D printing and CNC machining capabilities in house, training the staff on their safe operation. In my time, I was able to gain a better understanding of scrum business practices, practical engineering design, and working in a global company over the course of 4 short months.
