Advanced Virtual Economy Applications (AVEA) is a research project focusing on new approaches to so-called “virtual property”, artificially scarce digital objects that have rapidly become a viable business model for software products and online services, and especially gained prominence in e.g. massively multiplayer online games. We combine theoretical understanding of virtual economies with new application areas to produce novel software concepts aimed at the global market: mobile virtual economies, casual gaming, social networks, sustainable consumer behavior, and analytical software.

In 2006, I was recruited to work as Research Programme Manager at Helsinki Institute for Information Technology HIIT, a multidisciplinary research institute combining top researchers from both University of Helsinki and Aalto University. I had the great joy to work with prof. Marko Turpeinen as my boss in the Network Society research program. The programme focused on social media usage, virtual economy, IPR issues and mobile HCI. In four years, it grew to be the largest programme of the institute.

FUGA was a large multidisciplinary European research project studying the "fun of gaming".

From 2003 till 2006, I worked as Executive Director of DocPoint – Helsinki Documentary Film Festival. I had the pleasure to work with two very talented film directors that acted as artistic directors of the festival – first with Arto Halonen and then with Kristina Schulgin. During these three years, the festival became one of the largest documentary film festivals in the world.

At Starcut, my job was to investigate how we could generate word of mouth around movies using mobile phones.
