My working career has been with 2 groups or in 2 parts – first in Manufacturing industry, from 1988 to 2011 for a greenfield engineering Company, and second in Services industry, from 2011 to 2021 for a group comprising of a NBFC, a HFC and a General Insurance Company.Started my career as Finance Manager and Co. Secretary for an engineering company, moved to the position of CFO and eventually CEO of the Company. Moved to financial services industry in 2011 as Group Chief Strategy Officer, and subsequently took up the responsibility of Group CFO in 2016 and continued until July 2021. The 1st part of working career provided opportunities to create a manufacturing unit from scratch, handle issues at shop floor level incl. dealing with workmen, with customers and handle all varieties of issues for a manufacturing organization. The 2nd part of working career provided opportunities of acquiring a housing finance company from G E Money, working as part of the launch team of General Insurance Company, and challenges of navigating the group through the crisis in NBFC industry between Sep 2018 to Sep 2019, and then through the COVID pandemic since Mar 2020.Have closely observed and implemented migration of financial accounting from IGAAP to Ind AS, evolution of Direct and Indirect Taxation, evolution of transparency and corporate governance and have excellent understanding of each of these subjects.Handled several rounds of capital raise, by way of IPO and follow-on issues in 1990s to raising large capital - from PE investors in 2015 (Rs. 500 Cr), by a QIP issue in 2018 (Rs. 500 Cr) and inducting new promoter (Poonawalla group, Capital raise of Rs. 3,456 Cr) in 2021.Worked very closely with 5 marquee large PE investors over last 10 years apart from dealing with many other PE and Institutional investors as part of capital raise and investor relations portfolio.Dealt with almost all the large Public and Private Sector banks, Multilateral Institutions, Mutual Funds, Large Legal firms, Big 4 CA firms, Large Investment Banks, Rating Agencies, ARCs, etc.Served as Director on Board of Magma Housing as nominee of Magma Fincorp from Feb 2013 to June 2020.Represented Magma Fincorp, at all Board meetings of Magma HDI General Insurance Company Ltd from May 2012 to July 2018. A matter of pride for Magma’s Corporate Governance team came in 2019, when an Independent Investor Advisory firm assessed Magma against NIFTY100 Companies and found Magma’s governance at 80 percentiles, i.e., 20th best (Magma was near 500th rank in capitalization in 2019).
