Left this job around 2019 because of college duties, then came back to do the same position in 2021! In this position as an animal caretaker, I clean stalls, filled water troughs, and several other barn chores that are necessary to keep the operation organized. I also administered medication to the animals that needed it based on their history and health. I also worked as a product maker for the gift shop, and made lotions, face wash, shampoo, candles and multiple other products. This was a great learning experience as I improved in efficiency, organization and label placement!

For this 3 month internship I had learned many things about wildlife! I was taught the fundamentals of wildlife rehabilitation, prepared the patient's diets, administer their medicines, and delivered the meals to a variety of different animals. I learned about handling raptors and the restraint techniques involved, as well as kept record of their weight, diet and well-being. I made sure to follow rules very carefully to insure I don't imprint on the patients, as there are many laws regarding the imprinting of wild species. I cleaned and maintained enclosures while giving the patients enrichment opportunities while monitoring them and learning about different species' behaviors. I also had vet days where I assisted the veterinarians in the lab!

As a camp counselor, I cared for horses and also taught children and teenagers how to care for horses. These camps lasted for a week during the summer and helped as much as I could! I helped with general barn chores for the horses as well as demonstrate to the children how to do those tasks properly by making them fun! As a counselor, I got to teach children how to feed and administer medication based on the horse's condition, as well as vet wrap an injury or for cannon bone support. I showed children how to properly tack up, ride and be safe as possible around horses. I helped teach them the different parts of a horse as well as the different breeds, markings and health implications while owning or caring for horses. I helped at a few horse camps that are a week long.
