At 12 years old, my Dad and I visited Laramie, Wyoming for an antelope hunting trip. After visiting, I told my Dad that I wanted to live here someday. Today, nine years later, I not only live in Laramie but study Agricultural Communications and rodeo at the University of Wyoming. My roots run deep in agriculture and in several different areas of the industry. My grandfathers on both sides were large-scale producers in Eastern Nebraska and Western Illinois. Because of this, I was allowed to see aspects of the beef industry, pork industry, crop production industry (corn, soybeans, hay) and they even raised show lambs. All of it enamored me whether it was riding in the tractor or helping feed the livestock. My mother trained horses and my father team roped and is a veteran grain merchandiser and agronomist. We eventually moved to northeastern Colorado where I was given the experience of spending a few years of my life around our neighbor's cow-calf operation. This was the point in my life where I learned I wanted to be a part of the livestock industry. Over the next several years, I joined FFA where I found out that I can play in integral part in the agriculture industry whether I am a producer or not. My participation in several Leadership Skill Events and Career Development events during my time in FFA not only allowed me to learn more about the industry but also how to communicate effectively. My favorite contest was the Livestock Management. My team was the Nebraska FFA State Champions in 2019. While I enjoyed Livestock Management the most, the Agriculture Sales event is what inspired my major. I enjoyed developing sales and marketing strategies. If I had one word to describe myself, it would be optimistic. Advocating for the agriculture industry has been what I have worked for since I was a freshman in high school.
