I have always had an innate drive to help those in need. This deep-rooted passion led me to Psychology and Neuroscience for my undergraduate course of study. Determined to “figure out how the brain worked”. While gathering insight into the brain and behavior I became passionately attached to the ideas of youth advocacy. Reading articles, seeing brain scans, and following cases of children suffering I realized if I wanted to help out that was where I wanted to start.I began volunteering and subsequently working for the Syracuse City School District as a substitute soon after receiving my Bachelor’s and solidified my desired client population. Working with children has been a rewarding and positively challenging experience, but witnessing the struggles of these young scholars turned my eyes toward social work as a pathway for achieving my goal to help.Beginning the Master of Social Work program at Syracuse University this fall, I am excited to gain the skills and experiences necessary to return to my community and do what I can. I hope to spend time giving back to the city that raised me and help the young people inhabiting achieve their goals and live long, healthy lives. I look forward to continuing my role within the school district as well as gain new experiences through internships and other academic opportunities.
