I am an AAPC certified medical coding specialist with a life-long passion for healthcare and learning.I attended the George Jenkins Medical Academy in high school and took classes ranging from medical office skills to first responder courses. Following my graduation from high school, I worked several busy customer service jobs while pursuing my higher education. I received my Medical Coding Specialist certification from Polk State College. After joining Lakeland Regional Health, I graduated Summa Cum Laude with my associate's degree in Liberal Arts.In my job as a professional fee medical coder, I abstract medical chart data into procedure and diagnosis codes. I maintain an open line of communication with my providers and clinical staff and keep them informed of coding guideline updates. I regularly audit provider documentation and provide personalized feedback for documentation improvement. I work hand-in-hand with the billing department to identify coding denial patterns and prevent future denials. Together we research denials, find insurance specific policies, formulate appeals and correct claims.My areas of expertise include obstetrics and gynecology, gynecologic oncology, maternal fetal medicine, and primary care/ambulatory coding. Coding is an ever-evolving field, but I am up for the challenge!
