As a volunteer Camp Advisor, I travel to camp sessions during the summer to advise student leaders, maintain the safety of student leaders and campers, and liaise with Kesem National staff members, local campsite directors, and other local systems. I have worked with Camp Kesem at James Madison University, UCLA, and Indiana University.

Wanting to use my personal experience to help kids affected by a parent’s cancer, I joined Kesem as a committee member (2019-20), using events and social media to spread awareness. The following summer, I spent my first of three summers as a Camp Counselor. This introduction made me want to be more directly involved in the kids’ experience; as the Operations Coordinator (2020-21), I planned and led a week-long virtual summer camp. I then became the Events Coordinator (2021-22), learning more about nonprofit management as I raised over $10k at an in-person gala. As the Director (2022-23), I helped 100+ undergraduate volunteers find purpose in their roles. In being involved with these many facets, I have helped establish frameworks for long-term chapter success.

I coordinate the operations and logistics of the Pediatric Asylum Clinic at the UCSF medical student-run Human Rights Collaborative. This clinic provides free medical and psychological evaluations for clients seeking asylum in the United States to document prior experiences and strengthen the legal affidavit used in the client's court case. In this role, I also lead quality improvement projects to sustainably improve clinic operations.

I engaged gallery visitors in dialogue about art and ensured the security of the gallery's artwork.

I worked in the Rice University Holistic Garden under the guidance of Dr. Jade Hagan and Dr. Joe Novak as the Citizen Science Coordinator to create, execute, and analyze data from the first conducted citizen science project, designed to understand customers' purchase habits and their plants' outcomes in order to inform what plants would be sold and what advice should be given to customers in the future. I also worked in the garden with composting, tending to live chickens, harvesting and planting a variety of seasonal and yearly crops, and working garden sales in order to maintain and expand Rice's fully organic on-campus farm/garden and provide produce for Student Housing and Dining Services.

I created my project, “The Lived Experiences and Mental Health of Houston-Based Asian American Healthcare Professionals During the COVID-19 Pandemic”, completed qualitative data collection, wrote a full manuscript, presented at the Southern Sociological Society Annual Conference, and defended it in front of a faculty panel. This research began as a Senior Honors Thesis with the Rice University Sociology Department, but is now ongoing with the goal of formally publishing a manuscript.

Being a lifelong sports fan and wanting to be more involved in connecting students with each other and the community, I joined the sports column of the undergraduate-run newspaper. In writing articles about athletes at all levels, I helped them feel better supported through sharing their stories. My main articles focused on objectively showing staff and student perspectives on intramural sport mismanagement accusations, with one being featured on the front page.

I served as a Co-captain of the Co-ed and Womens' Intramural Soccer Teams, helping run practices and competing in weekly games.

I was a Teaching Assistant (TA) for Dr. Tony Brown's Sociology of Mental Health (SOCI 344) course for the Spring 2021 semester and Spring 2023 semester as well as for Dr. Amanda Perkins Ball's Psychological Aspects of Sport and Exercise (KINE 310) in the Fall 2021 semester.

I was an Academic Fellow for undergraduate students at Will Rice College and tutor in Kinesiology and Health Science subjects.

I was a Peer Academic Advisor for undergraduate students at Will Rice College and provided help with academic planning and choosing classes.

I was selected as a member of the Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) Patient Discharge Initiative (PDI), where I volunteered at the Ben Taub Emergency Department to perform weekly assessments of patients' social determinants of health in order to match them with social, financial, and legal services that would give them the best possible holistic healthcare experience. Additionally I helped follow up with patients after their visit to the hospital in order to determine how effective our resources are for them. In August 2020, I became a Shift Leader and led volunteer groups and trained new volunteers.As the Head of Patient Education, I led a team to create and publish digital resource handouts (focusing on food, financial assistance, employment, mental health, and pandemic safety information). I also helped organize the 2020 Rice-Columbia COVID-19 Health Policy Hackathon. I also cofounded NextStep, an automated SMS messaging service that matches patients with local and online social resources based on their demonstrated needs. I have been involved since ideating and pitching the platform at MIT’s Beat the Pandemic II Hackathon in May 2020, where our team won the top prize, grant funding, and opportunities to network with global health professionals. We tested the system in a recently concluded IRB-approved research study at two Houston clinics that serve patients in underrepresented communities. The results of the study are being analyzed to determine the efficacy of the system.

I was elected Class Representative, Secretary, and Chair of the Rice University Honor Council. I was responsible for selecting and electing representatives who serve on panels that adjudicate academic integrity violations. After the COVID-19 pandemic shifted academics and Honor Council proceedings online, I helped convert procedures to a remote format and advised Rice University administration, faculty, and students.

I completed a course on ethical global service at Rice University before completing an internship with the Kiyita Family Alliance for Development (KIFAD). At KIFAD, I worked on several projects, including field research into barriers to local healthcare access, volunteering at medical clinics, and creating new social media and communications strategies.

I served as the Trumpet Section Leader in the undergraduate, non-music major orchestra, where I participated in weekly rehearsals and biannual concerts.

I served as an Orientation Week Advisor at Martel Residential College for a group of incoming new students at Rice University, introducing them to academics and social life as well as supporting them logistically and emotionally.

I observed patient appointments under Dr. Quynh Nguyen and Dr. James Welsh at the MD Anderson Department of Radiation Oncology Outpatient Department, observing both traditional radiation oncology approaches as well as clinical trials combining radiotherapy and immunotherapy.

I worked in the Welsh Laboratory at the MD Anderson Department of Radiation Oncology with Dr. James Welsh in translational research focusing on creating therapies to treat lung cancer based on our discovery of the “abscopal” and “radscopal” responses. My main projects focused on working with a biopharmaceutical company to conduct translational research on the effectiveness of their immunotherapy drug in conjunction with our novel therapies. My work with the lab has resulted in manuscripts published in the International Journal of Radiation Oncology, Advances in Radiation Oncology, and a textbook chapter publication in Systems Biology of MicroRNAs in Cancer with Springer.

I worked in the Muller Laboratory at the MD Anderson Department of Cancer Systems Imaging under Dr. Florian Muller and Sunada Khadka to analyze strategies for targeted cancer therapies, specifically considering our lab's novel discovery of “collateral lethality”. Beyond learning about nuanced biological and immunological topics relevant to the lab's work, I built upon my wet lab, data analysis, and academic writing skills. I was a contributor to our manuscript published in Cancer and Metabolism.

I shared Kaplan professional resources with Rice University students, practicing marketing, communication, and outreach skills.

I was selected to be a member of the Rice University Design for America studio, where I worked on a team of undergraduate students to use human-centered design approaches in working with local community partners to make meaningful social impact in addressing real-world challenges. My team's project focused on streamlining a citizen science project for the Rice University Holistic Garden.

I was a teaching assistant and tutor at the Kumon Learning Center in Agoura Hills. I worked with children aged 5 to 18, tutoring them in English and math topics. After the COVID-19 pandemic, I worked virtually and specialized in early learning and child development, working with children aged 5 to 7 to help them build fundamentals for learning.

I worked as a researcher in the Zhai Lab at UCLA's David Geffen School of Medicine Department of Surgery. Our work generally surrounded liver transplant immunology, and my project focused on determining the efferocytosis capacity of peritoneal macrophages. I am a co-author on a manuscript published in the Journal of Hepatology.

I took vitals, completed patient intake forms, presented patient cases to attending physicians, and shadowed appointments for over 200 patients at the Westminster Free Clinic, which serves uninsured and underserved patients in Southern California. I also trained over 20 new interns during my time at the clinic.

I participated in a six week summer research program hosted by the Summer Science Program at Purdue University. I researched under Dr. Mark Hall and Dr. Martha Oakley on the Cdc14 enzyme of the fungus M. oryzae. I worked with my research team to characterize enzyme structure, design and optimize a small molecule enzyme inhibitor using modeling software, and present our novel results, future research paths, and final manuscript.
