In my role as an intern I taught large and small group lessons of elementary aged children (ranging from 10 to 60 children). I developed and planned curriculum, activities and community events such as Fall Festival. I supervised child safety welfare during physical activity and pick-up/drop-off times. I collaborated with local schools, organizations, and businesses to plan activities and outings, such as water play activities with Owasso Fire Department. I was involved in community outreach and mentoring children.While interning I also recognized that the needs of families of children with developmental disabilities weren't being met. I created a sensory room for children to have access to so that their family's could enjoy worship knowing their child was being cared for. I assembled an interdisciplinary team of volunteers (speech pathologist, child life specialist, high school teacher, and school administrator) to help plan therapeutic interventions and train church volunteers. I lead advocacy and fundraising efforts, and created a budget for the building, and sustaining of the sensory room for up to one year. I collaborated with families to establish trust and individualized plans for each child that utilized the sensory room. I interviewed and trained select volunteers from within the church who would be working with the children, taking care to establish consistency for these children.
