Volunteering with the Ability Experience has given me countless opportunities to assist those in need and build up my community. First introduced to it through my fraternity, it became a staple of my college life. Raising funds and forging relationships with those with disabilities has been an eye-opening experience. Just this past semester, I was able to take part in a week-long fundraiser which raised twelve thousand dollars for the ABX.

Working as an Optometric Technician at Vine Vision was the first step towards becoming an eye doctor. This full-time summer role was both a challenging and informative experience. I was charged with assisting the optometrist in collecting patient data and measurements to allow the correct diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases. I was also charged with operating the auto-refractor and optomap machine as a means of further assisting the OD with data/imaging. Performing my job effectively required me to give consistent care and communication to both patients and to the head optometrist. Efficient communication is something I pride myself on and was challenged to perfect when presented with communication boundaries by patients speaking foreign languages.
