I was attached to the Protein Production department at ACM Biolabs, under the supervision of Dr. Devendra Shivhare. I assisted in the research and development of a DNA vaccine which targets a viral infection in animals. For this project, we investigated the effects of different components of the nanoparticle used to deliver genetic materials into target cells. In my own capstone project with guidance from my colleagues, mentor and supervisor, I investigated the optimisation of the plasmid DNA used in the development of the DNA vaccine through molecular cloning techniques resulting in at least a 2-fold increase in the expression levels of the encoded gene in target cells.

I was attached to the Metabolic Engineering Laboratory under the Singapore Institute of Food and Biotechnology Innovation (SIFBI), under the supervision of Dr. Ng Yao Zong.My project is titled bioengineering and biotransformation for high-value flavour and fragrance production. This involves engineering Saccharomyces Cerevisiae cells to produce complex compounds which are high-value bioflavours.

Final Year Project in Ngee Ann Polytechnic at the Singhealth Academy in Singapore General Hospital, under the National Neuroscience Institute. I was under the supervision of Dr. Ma Dong Rui.I assisted in research to study the TMEM230 mutation to find out its relevance to Parkinson’s Disease. In this study, we analyzed possible off-target mutations of the TMEM230 knock-in H9 human embryonic stem cells. Differentiation into neural progenitor stem cells and DA neurons was confirmed through immunofluorescent staining of cell markers.

I assisted in research on Alzheimer's Disease using Drosophila Melanogaster as disease models. I was attached to the Developmental Genetics Laboratory under the Biological Sciences Department at Konkuk University, in Seoul, South Korea.I was under the supervision and guidance of Dr. Cho Kyoung Sang. My project involves research on certain terpenes, to find out if they could potentially alleviate Alzheimer's Disease.Terpenes were added in the food of amyloid-β42 (Aβ42)-induced neurological phenotypes in Drosophila. Tests conducted include survival rate test, western blot to determine ERK phosphorylation levels, acridine orange staining to quantify apoptosis in the brains and eye discs of Drosophila larvae.
