Battle Creek, Michigan

As a watchdog reporter, I cover the city of Battle Creek and other municipalities in Calhoun County. I consistently write monthly enterprise pieces about important issues from lack of housing to the impact of the marijuana industry on municipalities, people and the economy. The stories I write do more than inform, they encourage people to talk more about.

I covered new business in the area, the local economy, manufacturing in the Mahoning Valley, the automotive industry and a list of other topics. My goal was to tell stories that make complex topics understandable and that connect people to people and ideas. I did this through storytelling with facts, figures and people.

Youngstown, Ohio Area

I covered every aspect of three different communities in the Mahoning Valley. I wrote daily stories on crime, government, education and people.

I worked to produce video content for the newspaper's website, post-gazette.com. I shot and edited a variety of videos each week. I covered press conferences, breaking news, sports and local feature stories.

I advised the section editors on content, helped writers, edited and designed pages. Each week we produced an eight to 10 page paper that reached thousands of students and professionals in the Pittsburgh area. With help from my eager staff, I was able to grow the news section of the paper, create a better workplace for writers and editors and encourage new.

In this position I worked as one of the first interns for the award-winning breaking news team. I investigated possible breaking news stories and provided content for the Dayton Daily News, and the WHIO radio and TV stations.
