Kaleem Caire is the founder and CEO of One City Schools. Prior to One City, Kaleem was the president and CEO officer of the Urban League of Greater Madison in Madison, WI and chair of the National Urban League’s Education Committee.Kaleem is a nationally recognized social innovator and entrepreneur who is known for starting and leading movements for change. He's been a leader of community and organizational transformation, education reform, public engagement campaigns and workplace diversity and inclusion. He has spearheaded and developed unprecedented coalitions, public engagement initiatives and complex organizational change efforts that have led to broad and highly impactful changes and improvements in public education, business operations, workplace productivity and diversity, and community inclusion and success. His innovative ideas and contributions to education have positively impacted millions of children in the United States and abroad. In 2008, Kaleem was among the first recipients of the University of Wisconsin’s Forward Under Forty Award and in the same year, was named a Distinguished Alumni by the University of Wisconsin Alumni Association for his work in education and community development. He was also the youngest adult recipient of the City of Madison (WI) Martin Luther King, Jr. Humanitarian Award in 2001 and the Urban League of Greater Madison’s Whitney Young Jr. Award (2001), among others.Kaleem’s life commitments are to create opportunities in places where people need them the most, to move people from poverty to prosperity and to raise strong and caring children in his own home. His work in education has been chronicled in news articles, research papers and books. Kaleem is the proud father of five awesome children: two daughters ages 21 and 26, and three sons ages 17, 28 and 30 (as of May 11, 2024). He likes to workout, bike, hike, kayak, cook, travel, read, attend sports events, binge-watch Netflix and Amazon Movies and “Seasons”, pretend he can still play sports at a high level, and chill with friends & family.

Our public charter schools and independent preschool have been purposely designed to ensure that our young scholars, ages 2 through 12th grade, are able to (a) read and compute at grade level and overcome learning difficulties, (b) successfully complete a rigorous and inspiring education program, (c) develop healthy and life-supporting habits of character, and (d) complete significant credits, coursework and field experiences towards earning college degrees, apprenticeships and professional certifications before they graduate from high school. We currently operate One City Preschool and One City Elementary School, and will open One City Preparatory Academy (grades 6 through 12) in fall 2022. Grew ULGM from serving 183 adults in December 2009 to 1,713 by December 2013, and increased business and industry partners from 18 to 73 with training graduates earning $17.2 million in annual salaries/wages and paid $3.5 million in taxes. Provided tutoring to 2,500 children in 17 middle and high schools utilizing more than 900 skilled volunteers in 2013. Established four new career training programs, Featured Employer Seminars, two new college/high school prep academies, Urban League Young Professionals Chapter, new signature annual Jazz Cabaret Fundraiser, and the annual Workplace Diversity & Leadership Summit, Wisconsin's largest training ground on workplace diversity. Rallied the Greater Madison region to address severe racial disparities in education and employment; ULGM is now one of the largest providers of workforce training in Southern Wisconsin and highly recognized in the state. ULGM was awarded the Best of Wisconsin Business Awards - Philanthropy & Community Service (2012) and received a 4.8 of 5.0 possible points on National Urban League's national affiliate assessment in 2012, up from 3.7 in 2008.
