About Kaleena Odd, Ph.D.
I love learning and hope to be a lifelong learner! I am interested in how courses and programs can be designed, evaluated, and adapted to fit the diverse needs of their target audience. I believe that teaching and program outcomes need to focus on holistic development including cognitive, socio-emotional, and physical development. For example, I implement this in my courses by creating and evaluating learning outcomes in three domains — cognitive, affective, and psychomotor. Thus, my goal is to help students reflect, demonstrate, and evaluate course concepts, modify what they learn in class in a way that is meaningful for them, build transferable skills, and display a new mindset towards overarching concepts such as aging.During my graduate training, I have actively supported efforts to promote and sustain diversity, equity, and inclusion on campus. For example, I collaborated on the “Imagining an Age Friendly University of Nebraska at Omaha: Content, Colleagues, and Conversation” project during the 2020-2021 academic year. This was an effort to promote a welcoming environment for all ages in the curriculum, pedagogy, and research agendas both within the university as well as the community and contributed to the University of Nebraska at Omaha being officially recognized as part of the global Age-Friendly University network. As I transition out of my graduate training, I recognize that my role as an educator and researcher is to create a welcoming, inclusive environment for my students, colleagues, community, and other stakeholders.
