I worked as a Patient Financial Counselor in a psychiatric hospital where I assisted patients both on our inpatient units and in our outpatient programs with health insurance application, financial assistance applications and various other financial needs. During my time in this position I became a Certified Application Counselor through the state of Vermont certifying me to assist patients with Medicaid and other state benefit applications. I also became CPI certified through the Crisis Prevention Institute where I learned learned verbal de-escalation and behavior management techniques which I applied when working on the inpatient units.

I worked in the billing department of the Brattleboro Retreat as a Patient Account Representative where I assisted patients with their billing needs. I answered the phone and resolved billing questions, mailed up to 400 statements per week and resolved hundreds of credit balances on patient accounts to help our organization meet compliance standards.

Managua, Nicaragua

I completed both a three week Global Health Practicum as well as a five week Global Health Internship promoting maternal and infant health in Nicaragua. During this project my team utilized the community-based participatory research model and worked with families and community members using evidence based research to develop a rotafolio (flip chart) detailing culturally sensitive and specific maternal health practices. This rotafolio was then implemented into a local community-run maternal support group named Crianza con Amor which translates to "Parenting with Love."
