My decision to pursue a degree in education wasn’t made lightly. Since I enjoy mathematics, I initially considered becoming a civil engineer, but I felt I needed to make more of a contribution to our social society. I also debated studying social neurology because I enjoy understanding how the brain works. However, this career also lacked making an active difference in people’s lives. Finally, I realized that being a teacher would combine all of those desires together: mathematics, helping others, and learning how people think. By teaching math I make an active and personal contribution to my community. By continuing to understand how my students learn and develop I will grow professionally to become a highly effective teacher.I am an educator certified in Mathematics (6-12) and TESOL (K-12). My passion for math developed over time with the aid of good teachers and my motivation to succeed. I have learned from them to appreciate the logic and beauty of mathematics. My goal is to now help my students understand and appreciate the math that is all around them. In my free time I enjoy baking, organizing, and backpacking in the mountains with my family.
