I worked with UCS' Tropical Forest and Climate Initiative, carrying out quantitative policy analyses on potential emissions abatement in the global land sector.

Co-authored a paper on drivers of deforestation which is in a re-submission phase to a top academic journal, Review of Environmental and Economic Policy. Results of our meta-analysis are discussed in The Economist (see link below). Worked for the CGD's Forest and Climate Initiative, helping to review and make edits to background papers that will inform an upcoming book.Conducted a meta-analysis of drivers of deforestation in developing countries based on the econometric results and literature of included studies, retrieved deforestation data in Indonesia using spatial analysis, and coordinated a workshop on "Modeling Deforestation in the Yucatan," in Merida, Mexico.

Began developing a meta analysis on drivers of deforestation at CI. Researched and wrote the background content of publicly available factsheets that serve to inform Nestle S.A. and other consumer based companies where deforestation is occurring. Employed GIS methods to analyze deforestation data from 2000-2012 in Indonesia and Brazil.

Researched and drafted a report on the illegal elephant ivory trade from Africa to China, which was released at the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) in 2008 and influenced the decision to deny China access to the African ivory market.Educated stakeholders regarding the enforcement of a new law (the Lacey Act) that passed under EIA’s leadership, including translating press releases, and creating materials on Lacey Act enforcement.Produced a summary of illegal logging in the Russian Far East, which was included in a report on Wal-Mart’s imports of illegal wood products.

Supervised an average crew of 25 for over one year. I coordinated and enforced maintenance regimes for ship operations and oversaw ad-hoc strategic responses to technical and organizational crises.As part of my general duties, I facilitated communication and cooperation with other departments and levels of authority and led and coordinated teams to combat illegal whaling practices in Southern OceanOn particular campaigns, I organized operations against illegal fishing practices, including campaigns to mitigate longlining for Patagonia Toothfish in the Pacific Ocean, and to ensure legal lobster size in Santa Cruz, Galapagos, EC. During this time I mobilized crew members to clean up oil spill in the Santa Cruz, Galapagos, EC.Translated radio communications between SSCS flagship and commercial ships, Spanish-speaking Port Authorities, and Galapagos National Park rangers.

Worked with the Integrated Water Resources Management Unit of the OAS, editing reports on water resources management. I also collected data on trans-boundary water resources management, later summarized in a 2006 UNEP report.
