During my three month internship at Conscience International (CI) I worked in both community development and in the HQ office. I gained a deep understanding about NGO work in Africa, including knowledge of human rights and development approaches and insight into fundraising, advocacy, programmatic work. I gained the unique opportunity to work with vulnerable groups like adolescents providing them with information on health issues which will benefit the entire community. I developed knowledge of neglected human rights issues such as mental health, TB, gender based violence and adult literacy. Altogether this opportunity to work overseas gave me a totally new level of self-confidence and I’m also confident to work in English with people from different nationalities. My main responsibilities were the following:• Developed a human resource manual outlining personnel policy guidelines to assist staff with their operational responsibilities.• Facilitated community training for adolescent girls and boys on sexuality and health education in the West coast region of The Gambia. The aim was to empower and educate young people on neglected but prevalent human rights issues.• Managed social media and website developments including a CI Facebook site to improve the NGO brand and promote the work of the organisation. • Researched institutional funding opportunities and helped develop concepts notes to support the International Programmes Officer in the preparation of project proposals. • Coordinated outreach projects, collaborating with the Communications Officer to encourage tourism fundraising and brand awareness.

Worked as a project assistant in Revenue Assurance project that was rewarding but simultaneously very challenging role. My main responsibilities were the following: • Coordinated and monitored the entire 6 months project. Also responsible for reporting the results of the project, including both the weekly and final report for the project management. All reports were in English. • Responsible for monitoring and investigating the causes of increases or decreases in net sales for certain customers. Developed practices for SLA-reports (Service Level Agreement). Also wrote the instructions in English. • Coordinated, implemented and reported the IT-project (Recycle Unused Workstation). Collaborated with international employees in English.

During my three month internship I gained a deep understanding about all kind of recruitment services, including advertised search, direct search, database search and recruitment outsourcing. • Assisted in the research process of direct search assignments. This included the following: getting to know employers' recruitment needs, target group definition, identifying and approaching suitable candidates and building descriptions of assignments and profiles on candidates.• Arranged the interviews with the candidates, assisted the recruitment consultants with interviewing, wrote summaries of the interviews.

Worked as a laboratory assistant in the production department, where is produced reagents for hospital and food industry. • Manufactured reagents of clinical chemistry for hospital laboratories. Labeled and packaged of semi-finished products. This role requires great accuracy because products cannot be mixed while packing. Provided also support for new summer trainees in 2010 and 2011.
