STR (stresearch.com) is hiring and a great place to work. Analytics, Research, Software development - people are using our work every day - message me. I love to solve problems using software. I have been writing commercial software for many years, leading the development of many major applications, making significant contributions to the creation of more than fifty products, and playing a role in countless others. These products have sold millions of copies. They have won accolades and awards being recognized as exceptional in design and execution. I bring my formal Caltech physics training to provide a rigorous basis to my development work and associated research. A history of collaboration with artists, designers, musicians, and numerous creative professionals has taught me an appreciation for uncompromising design that allows for effective communication with exacting and in the end very satisfied clients. My current interests: Big Data on AWS or with Apache Spark, Drones, Open Source Information collectionSpecialties: Webservices, Games, Simulations, Prototypes, Software tools, Architecture Review

Principal Software Engineer Scalable SystemsSystems & Technology Research Jul 2012 - PresentWoburn, Ma, UsMr. Andrew Kaluzniacki has been with STR for 10 years and has been developing software for over 30 years. He has led software teams on several of STR’s larger projects, including SMISC, REDLINE, ALCHEMY, and soon HAYSTAC. He pioneered STR’s deployment of reliable systems on AWS: the SMISC system ran for nearly a year, and the Twitter collector for five years, with no downtime for either. Other systems that Andrew architected, built, and deployed have processed terabytes of data each day reliably over many years. Andrew led the STR effort to become ITAR/DFARS compliant on AWS, defining and implementing the security compliance architecture. He is familiar with many languages, including Python, Java, and C/C++, as well as the effective tools and development practices of the past 40+ years. His current focus on ALCHEMY is architecting, developing, and introspecting a reliable distributed system that can be maintained and extended by developers who have not been on the project since its inception. Andrew believes that the cognitive focus of a project should be on STR’s novel solutions, rather than on tools and infrastructure that can be adopted from wider software industry practice. The HAYSTAC project anticipates data sizes into the petabytes. Andrew's focus is to enable STR scientists and our academic partners to develop algorithms and a system that can reliably work with data at that scale. Mentoring non-software engineers in modern development practice, while letting them keep focus on their areas of expertise, is his goal.As STR has grown, Andrew has worked to mentor software engineers and to develop practices across the company that will lead to the deployment of efficient, reliable solutions using current development practices, while allowing team members to concentrate on their areas of expertise--and of course to learn good software practice when that is appropriate. -

META aims to reduce time to manufacture by a factor of 5x. My team works on integrating current tools into a novel cloud deployment enabling extended modeling and simulation of cyber-physical systems. The more detailed the simulation the more likely issues will be worked out in-silico, rather than in titanium.Recently: Worked an internal project to produce a security enhanced version of XEN as part of the TS-AIT cloud initiative. Recently: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deep_Green. SWEL for the user facing UI, Commander Associate.
