As an avid lifelong learner, with an overreaching interest in how biological, social, and psychological factors come together to influence mental health, I am working, studying, and training in the field. Interest in psychology as a subject was ignited initially by an aim to familiarise myself with research around child development when I was working in a school, starting by investigating childhood development with its overlying theme of the influences of nature and nurture, moving on to the patterns of human personality and behaviour and the links between the physical brain and mental processes, and then to human beings in their social contexts. In addition, a strong desire to attempt to understand loved ones with mental health issues fuelled my need to explore the human mind. Furthermore, studying aspects of social psychology provided understanding of experiences around identity – always a key question for those raised internationally! Wanting to explore more of the current understanding of the psychological and neuroscientific basis of mental health, I studied for a Postgraduate Certificate in Psychology and Neuroscience of Mental Health at King's College. I am now on my second year of a Doctoral programme in counselling psychology which incorporates training as an Integrative and Humanistic Psychotherapist.
