As the previous development director for 3 years, I had a smooth transition where my main priority was to keep the organization running smoothly as we looked to hire a new Executive Director.

I was responsible for overseeing our two annual fundraising events, developing relationships with current and potential donors, seeking annual organizational partnerships, grant writing, and stewardship of our donors. Much of this role included creating new opportunities to raise money, including partnerships with local organizations, restaurants, and even a viral social media project. All of the fundraising areas I worked in help GAPS continue to provide free programs for our members living with Parkinson's disease across the entire Upstate of South Carolina.

With a personal connection to Parkinson's Disease that initially led me to GAPS, I began this role in 2018 with the goal of collaborating with the entire GAPS team to improve the quality of life for those living with Parkinson's Disease. I accomplished this through my work that primarily focused on programming, volunteers, and member relations in my first year as Associate Director. This was followed by the following year, where I spent the majority of my work in a development-focused role. This included overseeing our two annual fundraising events, developing relationships with current and potential donors, seeking annual organizational partnerships, and stewarding our donors. All of the fundraising areas I worked in each day helped GAPS continue to provide programs for our members living with Parkinson's disease. I was able to transition to a Development Director role in June 2020.

Throughout the spring and early summer, our group of 16 ChangeMakers will work both individually and as a cohort to raise financial support for Students In Action, Multiplying Good’s flagship youth leadership development program that uses service-learning as the vehicle for arming high schoolers with the life skills necessary for successful in college, career, and beyond. We will also participate in volunteer, community, and other networking activities each month with the goal of raising awareness of Students In Action and inspiring even more young leaders to do their part. The program will culminate in June 2021 with a celebration event, recognizing each of the honorees.

As a Professional Development Associate (PDP), I managed a caseload of 75 Long Term Disability claims as a Disability Benefits Specialist while engaging with fellow PDPs in leadership endeavors across the company. I focused on attention to detail, effective communication with customers, and analyzing recurring trends in our data. Throughout this role, my passion for connecting with others and utilizing my interpersonal communication skills were reaffirmed. Also in my time at Unum, a fortune 500 company, I led an event for the Women in Leadership Employee Resource Group and was a member of Unum Young Professionals and United Way's Emerging Leaders.

As a college intern, I was exposed to everything from social platform management to research, preparation and design of sales materials for digital products. In my summer internship, I focused on projects for four of the company's publications: GVLtoday, Greenville Journal, Upstate Business Journal and TOWN Magazine. I managed social platform initiatives, planning, content curation and publishing, while overseeing the release of all digital content. In the fall, I assisted with creating and executing the digital marketing strategy for TOWN's annual event, as well as helped with the design and development of sales materials that clients see and use.

As a board member, my membership involved helping the organization grow and gain recognition through digital marketing and website design. Though I only served on the board for a short time, the relationships I established on and off the board were both rewarding and powerful. I had the privilege of leading our annual spring fundraising event, Strike Out Parkinson's, in which we reached and passed our goal of $50,000.

As a student ambassador, I was entrusted by my university to recruit prospective students and their families. I was trained to tell my own personal stories from Furman, while having the ability to answer questions about Furman's campus, meal plans, housing, etc. It was always one of my favorite involvements on campus because of the interactions I was able to have with prospective students and the look on their faces when they knew Furman was where they wanted to be for the next four years. I believe that making a deal comes naturally to me now after being an ambassador for my university for four years.

I was lucky enough to create wonderful relationships with independent living residents over the four years that I worked as a dining server at The Woodlands. Working in a fast-paced environment during the busy dining hours and retaining all 210 residents' names are few of the pieces I tackled while in this position. Though I have not worked there since I graduated college in May 2017, I still keep in touch with the residents I served and made lasting relationships in my time there.

In addition to overseeing nine other executive council members to ensure their programs run efficiently, I implemented the chain of command within the organization via weekly meetings between council members and the appointed officers under them. In addition, I implemented a goal-setting program to monitor the progress of each council member from the beginning to the end of one term. My position focused heavily on being the "umbrella" figure to the other positions and being the President's right-hand woman.

Being a Communications Intern was my first role at GAPS, which led me down a long and rewarding journey at the organization thus far. As an intern, I jumped on board right as our annual spring fundraiser, Strike Out Parkinson's, was gearing up. I redesigned the main Greenville Area Parkinson's Society website, along with the fundraising website used for three months leading up to the event. I established a new Facebook page and gained followers while going to members' caretakers and family members. During the April event, I organized volunteers from my university in hourly shifts while helping the event leader with logistics such as vendors and day-of donations. My internship ended when I was asked to join the board in April.

As Communications Director, I displayed creative problem solving daily through phone calls with campers' parents and brainstorming sessions with my counterparts to ensure campers were getting the best possible experience. My largest task was managing over 200 people, including organizing weekly training sessions and evaluations with counselors under my leadership. My biggest enjoyment was setting goals with counselors and watching them reach or surpass their goals by the end of the summer. Attention to detail was a crucial piece of my role, along with the empowerment of others to create a healthy, safe and growing environment for both campers and their counselors.

I was both responsible for the health and safety of young girls (all different ages over the summers) in my cabin and for attending my activity each day. Out on my activity as a certified Power Boating Instructor, I had the fun, while sometimes scary, job of teaching kids how to drive boats after a series of written tests. In the cabin, I was innovative and orderly to ensure all thirteen girls, along with my co-counselors, were safe, happy and healthy. Working with a co-counselor introduced me to working with others in a work setting and though sometimes uncomfortable, I learned how to cooperate efficiently and appropriately. In addition, I wrote weekly letters home to campers' parents in a YMCA-style template.

I was certified as a youth soccer referee in Maryland and was re-certified each year to stay updated with new rules and regulations. I worked with two other referees and set a plan for the game at least thirty minutes prior to the game. In addition, I worked closely with the assignor in my area to select the games I wanted to officiate in my area. Responding to coaches and parents were factors I handled well in my time as a youth referee.
