Validation of forward error correction (FEC) designs for optical communication systems. Maintained a C++ simulation tool used to test the error-rate performance of different FEC designs. Designed and maintained a high-performance GPU-based FEC simulation tool. Improvement of FEC for optical communication systems. Proposed several improvements to the current algorithm design that reduce power consumption without any performance degradation. Developed a new FEC scheme having a lower complexity and power consumption compared to the existing one at the cost of a negligible performance loss.

Adaptation of NNs for a smartphone's neural processing unit (NPU). Developed a fixed-point version of an image enhancement NN having a negligible performance loss compared to a floating-point version. Adapted this NN for the Huawei smartphones' hardware. This solution is used for real-time image enhancement in one of Huawei's smartphones.Real-time video enhancement. Developed and optimized a super-resolution NN enhancing old cartoons, which is suitable for real-time processing on a smartphone NPU.

Standardization of polar codes for 5G. Developed a puncturing-based rate-adaption scheme for polar codes; filed the corresponding patent application. Built and maintained a large-scale simulation environment for polar codes facilitating the optimization of polar codes for the 5G standard. Polar codes proposed by Huawei have been approved for the 5G standard.Standardization of LDPC codes for 5G. Designed and built a fully automated simulation pipeline for LDPC codes. Co-authored 2 patents.Improvement of non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) technology. Developed a new codebook for an SCMA NOMA scheme that reduces the complexity and improves the error-rate performance over the existing approach. The corresponding patent application has been filed.
