Kami Vinton is a doctoral candidate and teaching assistant. She is in the School of Journalism and Media in the Moody College of Communication at the University of Texas at Austin. Her personal research focuses on how mass media impacts public health behaviors, particularly vaccine hesitancy. She also works on several projects that investigates misinformation, racism, and social media.She earned a master's degree in Communication from the University of Texas at Arlington in 2016.Prior to graduate school, Kami spent several years managing research studies in a variety of areas including Autism, post traumatic stress, and traumatic brain injury. She's worked with research projects that focus on optimizing health (including social and emotional health) outcomes for children & teens, young adults, veterans, and aging adults. In addition to working on large NIH and DoD projects, she also worked with the development and marketing teams at the Center for BrainHealth at UT Dallas. In this position, she was the primary grant writer and helped garner funding for privately funded research projects. She also collaborated with other scientists to develop new research projects and assisted the marketing and community outreach groups to develop marketing tools and communications that explained the aims and scope of our research in plain language and emphasized the importance of the work.
