Biomedical Research Center (BRC) provides comprehensive services and offers cooperation in several areas of basic and applied research. Currently, we focus on two principal areas of research-development of new drugs and proteomics. During the preparation of new drugs and other molecules of interest, we employ a rational process of molecular design using in silico methods. The proposed compounds are then prepared by chemical synthesis and subsequently tested and characterized using in vitro experiments, with focus on biological activity and cytotoxicity. During the next stage, analytical methods are used to assess pharmacokinetic parameters of the new substance and its effectiveness as well as toxicological parameters are evaluated in an in vivo model. The most promising drug candidates selected by this approach are finally recommended for preclinical testing or offered to commercial partners. Currently developed new molecules are designated for use in several areas, including potential treatment of Alzheimer's disease and Myasthenia gravis. Furthermore, new disinfectant agents and organophosporus pesticides poisoning antidotes are being developed. Due to the versatility of individual stages of the development process, the applicability into the development of other types of substances or potential drugs is made possible. The research in the area of proteomics is primarily focused on the development of novel potential diagnostic tools. Our research group closely cooperates with both clinical and interdisciplinary departments at the University hospital on mutual projects and performs both qualitative and quantitative proteomic analyses with the aim to characterize alterations at the protein level, which could be associated with various pathologies. The scientists at the BRC are also in charge of supervising pregraduate and postgraduate students and their involvement into current projects.www.fnhk.cz/cbv
