About Kamonrat Chayamarit

Kamonrat joined UNESCO Bangkok in the Education for Sustainable Development unit in 2008 and was working on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme, Local and Indigenous Knowledge Systems (LINKS) and UNESCO Post-Conflict Post-Disaster unit for three years. She re-joined UNESCO Bangkok in the Culture Unit and responsible for Lao PDR since 2013. Her main role is to assist the State Party (Lao PDR) in implementing the UNESCO Conventions of which Lao PDR ratified. Kamonrat’s work involved four UNESCO culture-related Conventions which are, the 1970 Convention on the Means of Prohibiting and Presenting the Illicit Import, Export and Transfer of Ownership of Cultural Property, the 1972 Convention concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage, the 2003 Convention on Safeguarding Intangible Cultural Heritage Convention, and the 2005 Convention on Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expression. Before joining UNESCO, she had a work experience with the New Zealand Immigration Services for skilled migrants, a work experience with Consular/outreaches with the Public Affairs at the US Embassy in Thailand. Her academic background were a bachelor’s degree from the Faculty of Arts at Chulalongkorn University, a diploma for postgraduate study in comparative studies in cultures at Department of Anthropology and Sociology from SOAS, University of London and a master’s degree in Cultural and Creative Industries from King’s College London. Her personal interest is in arts and culture, village development, and botany. She obtained a certificate of Tropical Plant Identification course in 2018 from Kew Herbarium in London and has participated in Flora of Thailand conferences and CBD since young. In her free time, she also has been adopting and working in a Khmu village in Luang Prabang since 2010 for village development and opened a flower-shop to support the village since 2015 and started establishing a community herbarium in Thailand.
