My current position is very challenging and interesting, and if I could afford it, I would do it for free! I manage a unit that specializes in claim adjustment and calculation of Business income losses for Commerical Property coverage. We are an independent firm that has taken procedure and process very seriously. Our management system is state of the art. I have been priviledged to train under two executives with more than 30 years in the insurance industry and adjustment of claims, especially large losses. I have been in on the ground floor of refining processes and writing procedures. Management of the unit has provided me with experience in managing and training personnel. The adjustment process had provided me with an education in coverage analysis I do not believe I could have received anywhere else.

This is a family business where I performed a wide range of accounting duties, including helping to create a custom designed database that increased the efficiency of the frame shop. (Of course, it was a collaborative effort with my husband and sons!)

Office Manager - Invocing and payment, payroll, general accounting, interstore transfer of merchandise, freight claims, mailing lists and bulk mailing. Trained office personnel for cashier, payroll, accounts receivable and payable, etc. Xenix system Excaliber Plus and Premiere: Payroll, Accounts Payable, Purchase Order, General Ledger. Worked with our accountant on general ledger, financial statements, etc.

Computer entry for high risk insurance agency, case and client filing, mailing list and renewal notification, general office work, daily maintenance of spreadsheet for bound policies and paid premiums. Balanced bank statements for business. Computer work included work with a programmer to create a custom program for that agency, to automate the massive spreadsheet.

I was the first to use a computer for generating financial statements at this firm, after working on keypuch system for the first several months. Although it turned out to be the only job I ever hated, it was also the best. What I learned about accounting in the year I was at the firm prepared me for the positions I was to hold in the future.
