I entered the building and construction industry in 2001. Throughout my carpentry apprenticeship i did floor, wall and roof framing, first and second fix. I spent many years working on high end custom build homes in the western suburbs of Perth.Upon completion of my apprenticeship i relocated to Karratha in Western Australia's northwest and did a year of residential maintenance for the WA Government. After this i started my own company and built cyclone rated steel frames house for a couple of years.I decided to get into the mining industry and changed my skills to that of a form worker. I became a leading hand on the Cape Lambert project. My responsibilities included running a team of up to 10 men. I was in charge of all formwork, steel and concrete.When i moved back to Perth with my family i started my current job as a Formwork Supervisor. I have been in this position for two and a half years. I feel i have achieved all that i can in this position, so i have started night school studying a diploma in building and construction. I am currently halfway through and am on track to complete it in December of 2016. When i complete my training i will become a registered builder ASAP.I plan to start my own residential building company in the next 5 years. Until then i hope to pick up a job as a commercial site manager, or a residential site supervisor. This way i can gain an intimate knowledge on the complete building process and familiarize myself further with other trades.
