I've developed an interpersonal workflow to help organizations and clients understand their intentions through a design mindset and come to a conclusion that maximizes visual impact and storytelling within limitations. The most challenging part is walking the client through visualizations to arrive at their ideal needs and being a proactive force directing visuals within my understanding of design theory, communication and experience design, and minimizing that conceptual window through rapid prototyping. My sketching and rendering skills from my fine arts background help the most in the beginning until I switch to combine abilities in various 2D and 3D programs.I find artistic liberty within my studio practice to explore concepts and experiences, generating different design perspectives when working with clients. The distinction between art and design is blurred in my approach, as I combine the intention to reveal something new through artistic expression with the structure, research, and evaluation of design practice. Although this was a volunteer position, I've learned so much from this role that I consider it on par with work experience. I had the opportunity to work within a student association and learn the tenets of proper team communication for large and small projects. My role was to enhance website analytics, performance, organization with the challenge of improving site value to various audiences.I worked the back end for inventory and POS management and, having learned from the experience, I worked to automate tasks with sheet formulas in Google Sheets to streamline the workflow for future executives. The role helped me identify value gaps within organic site growth to improve visitor retention. The experience put collaboration into perspective for an organization providing opportunity services to students like Built, the SDA's brick-and-mortar student store. I've helped navigate the back-end for the graduate show fundraising event, which expanded my knowledge outside of pure design into system frameworks. The website needed an entire rehaul, requiring project management skills, where I could experience this role, learn from shortcomings, and refocus to adjust to a coordinating position. Insights:- Understand what it takes to support leader roles. - Google analytics, SEO, inventory, POS, and using metrics to locate website needs and make data-driven decisions.- The impact CSV software can have in automating raw data inputs.

Gaining experience in an industrial workshop opened up communication pathways from working alongside a highly skilled wood and metal worker in a quick-turnaround environment that prioritized quality and craftsmanship. With this first-hand experience, I developed faster ways of imagining joinery, and I was introduced to fundamental fabrication methods that have significantly helped me in my studies, having understood the importance of standardized parts and fasteners. Experience with heavy machinery has enabled me to understand fabrication alongside the design process to minimize fabrication errors, speed up turnaround, and visualize structural aesthetic details within the scope of larger forms.Engaged Skills:- Basic mathematics, units, scaling, and interpreting designs to then create with precision.- Studio housekeeping and seeing the value in studio etiquette and organization.

This role has helped me practice perspective-taking to simplify lessons and projects for different points of views with varying technical capabilities. I was able to practice the idiom that if you can't explain it to a 10-year-old, then you are doing it wrong. Seeing things outwards in has helped me grasp methods of resolving student frustrations and creating a nurturing environment that turns "happy little accidents" into progress. Motivation was a highly valued asset to overcome material failures and disappointment within my classes, as they are necessary and encouraged. I would help lead classes in Soapstone carving, which required attentive safety oversight, according to a curriculum and helped students develop their own ideas with my material knowledge. I taught painting courses and led a project on Classical Glaze Painting to give my students a head start in their art practice, having understood the importance of tradition and foundation to then break convention and find their expression. I started this job when I was 14, having been offered a job by my instructors for my involvement, passion and experience working with children. I learned that to teach is to understand and that if you can't teach it, you don't know it enough.
