Developed and executed technology roadmaps for Oil & Gas and industrial business segments. Led cross-functional teams of 5 to 30 members (R&D, Quality, Engineering, Operations) in designing new resin coated proppants; designed production plants. Introduced new resin coated product, Back Stop®, water soluble polymeric diverting agent Buoyant Bio Balls® for Oil& Gas division. Intellectual property maintenance, management including innovation management, IP generation, resource management, NDAs and JDAs.

Established Fairmount Santrol Technology Center with state of the art equipment for material and surface science research. Hiring subject matter experts, working closely with VP Technical Excellence & Innovation in developing corporate R&D strategy. Budgeting and Management of Technology Center. Troubleshooting commercial products and customer issues. Evaluated several coating technologies including, Phenolics, Polyurethanes, Hydrogels, Bio degradable polymers and several other technologies, for applications in Oil and Gas, Foundry and Industrial businesses.  Collaborated with resin plant on developing proprietary phenolic resins with desirable properties for coating applications. Identified additives, improving strength and other desired properties during coating process, with applications in Energy and Foundry markets. Introduced several new products in Proppants, Foundry, Industrial & Recreational Markets, including Propel SSP®, Propel SSP-350®, Bio Balls®, Coolset-100®, Polymeric Paver Sand, Sand Dust Control.  Developed and introduced number of testing protocols for Resin Coated Products, supporting QC/QA while leading cost reduction initiatives and re-engineering of existing products (> $5 million cost savings). Worked closely with engineering and production teams, building suitable production plants for production of products in high throughput (200-2400 tons/day, 3 plants). Led facility in sustainable development initiative goals and perfect safety record, with zero (0) OSHA recordable for 7 years. Filed several patents (8), published 3 technical papers and gave several invited technical presentations.

Led Soft Materials New Products group; supervising a group of scientists with PhDs in various areas of Material Science. Managing global contract R&D initiative consisting of 8 groups globally with annual budget of about $2M. Technology evaluation and licensing, in collaboration with Business Development and Marketing. Developing new product strategy and implementation for Soft Materials in collaboration with Marketing; Introduction of ca. 250 new products per year for catalog; custom projects. Developing collaborations with academic thought leaders; managed 4 active collaborations and several need / product-based collaborations. Introduced new products in Organic Electronics – Organic Photovoltaics; OLEDs; OFETs; Self Assembly; Nanomaterials; MOFs; Conducting Polymers. New products in Polymer Chemistry – RAFT polymerization agents (in collaboration with CSIRO, Australia); ATRP agents; Monomers; Hydrogels; Polymer end-group modifications. Developing QC testing protocols and specs for the new products, in collaboration with QC and QA. Made the department ISO ready and successfully passed ISO audits (6 years); customer audits; Made new products R&D department a safe place to work with zero OSHA incidents. Utilization of green methods in new product introduction, including FLOW Rector technology; Implemented several process improvements; Introduced CIP (continuous Improvement Program) in the department. Gave several invited technical talks at academic institutions and industries.

Led new product research group in organometallic and material science areas (group of 5 Scientists). Managed contract R&D; 4 groups in various parts of world; 12 FTE. Collaborated with various research groups in bringing innovation and new technologies to Sigma-Aldrich. Formed and led inter-departmental groups for carrying out special projects including harmonization of tech transfer, QC/QA protocols, ISO audits, high value (>$1M) custom projects. Worked with marketing and production in implementation of several product initiatives, including organoboron compounds; organotin compounds; trifluoroborates; Grignard reagents; organosilanes, chiral compounds; conducting materials; novel organometallic catalysts; monomers.

Developed new technologies; Boron compounds for Suzuki coupling; organometallic reagents; conducting materials. Gave several technical presentations visiting customers.

Introduced and championed several new product areas including Borane reagents, Silanes, Catalysts. Developed training procedures, SOPs and mentored co-workers. Go-to person for technical issues in the company, trouble shooting large scale production issues.

Managed a small research group in Prof. Herbert C. Brown laboratories, developing new borane reagents for organic synthesis. Commercialized some of the discoveries in collaboration with Aldrich Chemicals.

Worked with Prof. Herbert C. Brown (Nobel Laureate). Developed several new borane reagents for organic sysnthesis. Filed 4 patents and published several papers.

Awarded Sigma-Aldrich Fellowship to develop new amine-boranes for hydroboration, reduction and hydrogen storage applications
