I graduated from Adelphi University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology. While in school and for a few years after receiving my degree, I worked in retail and gained a lot of experience dealing with all types of people. I have always been extremely interested in the medical field and medical billing. I started my medical billing career as a No-Fault Biller, using DRG and EAPG rates to bill car insurance carriers for patients in the hospital after suffering motor vehicle accident injuries. After this, I worked in a temporary position for ProHealth Care Associates Central Billing Office. Here, I gained some experience with Worker’s Compensation claims in addition to obtaining some more experience with No-Fault as well as commercial medical insurance claims.Upon the completion of my temporary assignment, I became employed by The Patriot Group, where I became extremely experienced working with Out-of-Network and In-Network claims. I excelled at this company and became an account manager. I gained a lot of experience in all aspects of medical billing. I submitted claims to insurance companies, identified errors in coding and resubmitted corrected claims, negotiated with third party vendors (ie. VIANT, Zelis, GCS) for higher payments on Out-of-Network claims, posted payments, handled denials, claim reconsiderations and appeals, and assisted with the training of new employees. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I worked from home and loved being able to work in a comfortable and safe environment. When I felt like it was time to move on, I found myself working remotely from home for Signature Performance, a company located in Omaha, Nebraska, where I did follow up work on claims for Adventist Health. Currently, I work remotely for Signature Performance as Customer Experience Representative for ChampVA (the Civilian Health and Medical Program of the Department of Veterans Affairs). This has given me a chance to gain experience on the other side, taking calls from providers checking on claim status and from patients (Beneficiaries) and Veterans (Sponsors) with questions about their benefits and bills they receive. I feel that my background in Medical Billing greatly helps me in this position. I also have extensive experience with technology and computers. On the hardware side, I have installed RAM, video cards, hard drives, and set up networks. On the software side, I have reformatted hard drives, upgraded operating systems, and installed various updates. I also have a great amount of experience with troubleshooting computer and printer problems.
