I've been writing fiction and poetry since at least the third grade, but started getting more serious about it in college. I was an off-again on-again writer for some time, but count my aspiring-to-be-professional career as starting in 2005 (my first professional fiction sale was to Strange Horizons in 2006; and my first professional poetry sale to the same in 2009). Business - discovered a disconnect in system expectations between engineering and leadership, pitched novel solutions, and helped the business understand the disconnect such that they could realign their own and customer expectations and shift the product roadmap.Core technology - saw a failure in hardware expectations, dug into failure modes, developed a system to characterize and triage hardware prior to installation; worked with third-party contractors to further improve process and recoup investment.Core technology - developed a novel solution for sensor extrinsics determination; worked with third-party contractors to build out the interface to decrease development time.Core technology - delved into networking and SPI interfaces to assist debugging custom hardware; managed burn-in testing and evaluation.Process - product specifications - defined a template for product and project specification to standardize expectations and expose miscommunication.Process - mentoring - mentored junior and senior engineers towards better software definitional processes and understanding of business, product, and engineering needs.

In the largest computer vision group at Amazon, visual search, responsible for the "scan it" feature in the Amazon mobile app that recognizes products, barcodes, text, and more. We use traditional and deep learning techniques for our recognition processes. I also made the "April Fish" happen in 2016.

I designed and developed a number of iOS proof-of-concept apps and research tools, as well as two full-fledged iOS products for the vision-impaired ~ TextDetective and SmartMagnifier. Both adhered strongly to Apple HCI guidelines, as well as meeting-or-exceeding users' needs for accessibility. These integrated core computer vision technologies as well pulling from active research. I also designed and implemented a "ground truth data system" for collecting and annotating data to help train our systems against.Technologies involved: Objective C, C++, C, Python, HTML, CSS, CherryPy, JS, HTML5, Android OS, Java, MATLAB/OCTAVE, PostgreSQL, FreeBSD, OS X.

Web development from helping work out client needs through hosting selection, server management, database architecture and management, code architecture and development, through front-end html, css, and flash. Also did iPhone and AIR development. A silent partner as of June 2010.

I taught a first-semester introduction to programming with C, and a second-semester course with C++.

I managed a small team of developers to turn around small to large projects as part of Centric's "interactive" offerings. I had my hand in sites such as memorex.com and isohair.com. At any time, I helped my team juggle a dozen projects—all dynamic, all db-driven, all as clean as possible.
