Reclamation Soils/Hazardous Waste Management

Key Accomplishments-Led a team of 7 towards the successful transition of all environmental and operational permits by the date of sale of the mine.-Conversion of a 30 year old, 15,000+ page SMCRA permit to an electronic format, which has since become the example that other mining companies have been replicating to simplify permitting actions.-Successfully managed extensive damage to BMPs, culverts and other smaller drainage structures at the mine site after a large up-set condition, +50yr 6hr storm event, resulting in zero violations for the mine.-Improved efficiency and costs associated with maintenance of drainage structures on site by sourcing and utilizing riprap rather than the cobblestone historically used. Over life of mine it is predicted to save the company 500K+. -Engaged in litigation negotiations for alleged groundwater contamination from coal combustion by-products down stream of a coal mine in the southwest as a technical expert. Developed and implemented of a hydrogeological investigation at the mine, which led to the successful negotiations and executed the hydrogeological investigation 9 million dollars under budget.-2015 United Way/Navajo Way Campaign Lead – Led a team of 7 campaign volunteers to raise contributions totaling more than 1.1 million, exceeding the asset’s goal.-The End Dump Fleet was re-purposed during Closure Order on one of the active pits, to focus on assisting the dragline with coal uncovery. With this significant change in mine plan, resources were reallocated and with successful planning mine was able to meet the 5-year reclamation goal.-Successful completion of 400+ acre pre-mine soil survey. Well executed planning and management of the project resulted in identifying 30% more topdressing resources in the mine area.-Successful management of a 300 plus gallon spill of petroleum products resulting from the combustion of a 993 Caterpillar Coal Loader. No environmental impacts off-lease or to the waters of the U.S.

-Groundwater, surface water, soil sampling and wetland delineation.-Project/Field Management of hydrogeological investigations and remediation sites, impacted by LNAPL, DNAPL and/or heavy metals leading teams of contractors. -Environmental Field Management of the demolition and dismantling of large industrial complexes.-Management of over 100 sites for compliance reporting, including hazardous materials and waste reporting, leading a team of 5 people.
