About Kara James

I am a graduate of the University of BC and a CA, CPA, with over 20 years experience working with both private and public companies. My career began in public practice with KPMG in 1998. After leaving public practice most of my career was spent as a CFO for Sysco Canada, Food Service, Distributors & Wholesalers, the global leader in selling, marketing, and distributing food products to restaurants, healthcare, and educational facilities. My expertise is in internal control development, evaluation and implementation, as well as various high level CFO responsibilities including strategic planning, budgeting and forecasting, cash flow analysis, KPI development and implementation, business case analysis, expense management, and organizational restructuring. I am passionate about business and using my experience and expertise to help small to medium sized entrepreneurial companies elevate their performance and grow their bottom line. I bring a collaborative style, ability to listen without preconception, and strategic operational and financial acumen to every business I work with. In addition to helping my clients elevate their businesses, I am also is committed to giving back to my community. I am currently the Vice President of Kelowna Women in Business and a business mentor for Entrepreneurship@UBC – Okanagan Campus. My leadership philosophy and personal values center around people and I believe that success happens for you when you help others become their best selves, whether as a leader, colleague, parent, community member, or friend. In my leisure time, I enjoys spending time with my family on the hiking trails, lakes and ski hills in the beautiful Okanagan Valley and honing my skills as an amateur (very amateur) chef and mixologist.
