About Kara Gillette

My career has been a series of a) overcoming surprising hurdles in my life, b) identifying and pursuing work solving specific human pain points, and c) doing the best I can to grow as a leader. A younger me would have much rather preferred a clear vision and execution of this ideal career statement: "I want to be X when I grow up one day". And yet, that simple one two punch has never been - and never will be - how my career journey looks. Looking back though, I really wouldn't have it any other way. Traditional titles and career paths aside, here's the hats I've worn across my working years (if you care to know about the other stuff, scroll down!):• A power generalist who can get s*** done by embracing the power of self learning via my resources (peers, managers, and my all time bestie Google), my grit to succeed through challenges, and my dedication to quality output at all costs • A people person who really, really cares about living out the values of strong communication, iterative collaboration, and promoting healthy work-life balance for those I have the opportunity to manage/lead• A critical thinker who isn't afraid to speak up and engage in debates that bring us closer to our intended goals and strategyThe TLDR on the traditional "about me" pitch includes the fact that my work experience includes time spent in psychological interventions & research, career coaching, business / partnership development, people management, and more recently business operations. If any of the above resonates with you or interests you in learning more, reach out! I'm happy to network and connect with like (or otherwise) minded folks. Enjoy exploring my page!

Listed skills include Research, Public Speaking, Teaching, Higher Education, and 22 others.

Head Of Business Operations, Chegg Skills

Current

Santa Clara, CA, US

Due to the organic growth and success of the team, I was promoted! And my team is continuing to crush it. Additionally, am supporting change projects/strategies in flight across the business.

Apr 2023 - Present

  • In a fast paced, startup environment, it's hard to drive consistent, high performing results without proper onboarding, resources and training. I saw the gaps that existed on my team and pitched a custom role where I.
  • Developing an onboarding process for new hires - from first day communications, to a schedule, to Confluence playbook/documentation, to organized meet & greets with key individuals across the team within the first week
  • Running 4 "cohorts" of new hire onboarding across 4 weeks (each cohort being 1~2 people)
  • Launching a buddy program, and a "coffee hang" to make new hires feel supported, seen, and less alone during an entirely remote onboarding experience

Santa Clara, CA, US

  • Once I got a taste of bootcamp education/EdTech, I wanted more - and decided to take a challenge in the remote learning space. I went back to my career coaching roots, and was a 1-person career center that supported.
  • Managing an inbox of inbound requests (with a SLA of 1 business day) coming from students about career curriculum support, tips for job seeking, and advice on navigating networking
  • Running career workshops on topics like navigating job fairs, cold outreach 101, and resume development
  • Launching an alumni Q&A series where working alumni came back to share insights on the job search, and the working world
  • Having weekly 1-1 career coaching sessions with graduates who were in their job search period (up to six months post-graduation); we walked about job search strategies, prepping for interviews, and networking attempts
Dec 2017 - Dec 2018
