Worked alongside UMN Researcher 5 to develop experiment looking at common buckthorn leaf litter. Gained experience with experimental leaf litter protocol and C:N analysis. I also assisted with citizen science volunteer management. This includes working with volunteers, assessing volunteer data, coordination, and communication. I was also responsible for the Cover It Up social media management. This includes creating posts with captions, relaying scientific findings to public, and answering questions.

Gained experience with reducing data collection bias, woody and herbaceous species identification, working in complex experimental design, and working with a field team.

Daily watering and maintenance checks of the greenhouse. Once or twice a week I will work on a in-depth project to improve the plants and the greenhouse. There are around 45 plants within the greenhouse. I am also gaining knowledge about temperature systems, seasonal transitions for sun/shading, and plant families.

I mainly stocked the sales floor. I was also cross-trained to help at the cash register and to pick items for order pickup. To keep myself available for any extra help that was needed in those areas, I made sure to work efficiently and to keep communication lines open with my coworkers. Sometimes I collaborated with my team to set up displays or problem solve. This position gave me experience in team work, communication, and problem solving.

I worked a variety of positions throughout my time at the YMCA. I started at the child watch center where I would supervise up to 10 children at a time. I actively communicated with other staff, parents, and my boss to ensure that everyone was on the same page. Then I started working at the after school program. I would watch anywhere from 20-30 children with the help of coworkers. This created an environment that helped strengthen my skills in teamwork. I often helped with conflict resolution between children and would curate exercises for them to do throughout the afternoon. I also worked at the Kids Powerclub over a summer. I would be responsible for a group of 10 or less. We often took field trips which required the skills of multitasking and attention to detail.
