My Ph.D. work revolves around the theme of using organic synthesis to access complex molecules with spirocyclic architecture, specifically targeting urceoloids A & B. During the course of these investigation, I discovered a new rearrangement of a spiro[4.4]nonatriene to aryl-substituted, enantioenriched annulated fulvenes.

Learned basic reaction set-up techniques, purification via flash column chromatography and recrystallization, and analysis through TLC, NMR spectroscopy, and mass spectrometry.

I spent 10 weeks in the Global Discovery Chemistry (GDC) department specifically in the Neuroscience division. I was responsible for developing methods to functionalize the C-2 position of an imidazole ring in order to allow for faster structure-activity relationship testing in an imidazole series of interest.
