Developed in-house websites and custom solutions for the other manufacturing companies in the TyRex Group.• Developed Wordpress websites with an aim for performance, stability, and clean UI/UX. Brought the page weight down by a factor of 5 and improved load times by a factor of 3 compared to the legacy websites we were replacing. Often had to debug the custom PHP, Javascript, and CSS to isolate and resolve errors.• Ported a legacy program to sync data from our CRM from Java to Python 3 in a short sprint before the CRM API EOL. Added error handling, logging, and notifications.• Debugged and enhanced several extensive SQL queries that powered our custom SSRS reports.

I interned for a few months with a Python startup called Continuum Analytics (now Anaconda), and was in due course offered a full time position to continue working on Bokeh, a Python/JS visualization project.• Worked a number of different roles in my early time there: building out documentation, hunting for bugs and occasionally submitting PRs to resolve them, and developing many examples to demo the capabilities of Bokeh. Sharpened my Python and JavaScript programming skills.• Later assigned to a new project called MEMEX, which ran targeted web crawlers to index domain-specific websites. I picked up Flask and then Django along with Angular as our team of four engineers worked to stand up a web interface to manage crawls and visualize results.

I prototyped and then further developed WIPPS, a secure web service designed to accept observation files from GPS receivers and return a report with precise point positioning data.• Came into the role with some Java experience and a limited understanding of HTML and CSS, but picked up Linux, Bash, Python, JavaScript, SVN, and MySQL in two months as I simplified and brought the architecture to a beta stage. Accepted an offer to continue working part-time during the school year.• Soon tasked with bringing new teammates up to speed, including summer interns and a full-time employee.• Continued to prototype features which later evolved into requirements, including a visualization tool that hooked into the Google Maps API to present clustered location data.• Authored specifications to refactor the back-end code base to enforce stricter code quality, refactor the front-end with a blend of new web technologies, develop better adherence to the Python style guide, and support greater system stability. This work was distributed amongst a team of 4 employees.
