Coordinates a comprehensive shipboard/squadron training program and de-conflicts training requirements during Planning Board for Training (PB4T). Trains and supervises all department/division training coordinators. Develops and maintains Required Schools Master List. Actively liaisons with off-ship training providers, in particular, the AFLOATRAGRU Training Liaison Officer. Coordinates training orders, student clearances and training TADTAR budget. Reports ship training status using the Training and Operational Readiness Information System (TORIS).

Supervises deck force in performance of seamanship functions and evolutions. Prepares work schedules. Directs mooring, docking, anchoring, fueling, towing and transferring of personnel and cargo at sea. Directs operation and maintenance of deck machinery. Arranges for cargo handling. Assigns boats and boat crews. Maintains readiness of boats and survival equipage. Directs cleaning and preservation of weather decks, ship's exterior, running gear, ground tackle and boatswain's stores. Approves watch, quarter and station assignments. In charge of the welfare of 26 stellar Boatswain's Mates.

A skilled machine tool operators. Have the ability to make replacement parts to enable repairs or overhaul to ship's engines and auxiliary systems while the ship is out to sea and in port; perform organizational and intermediate maintenance on assigned equipment and in support of other ships; lathes, milling machines, boring mills, grinders, power hack saws, drill presses, and other machine tools required to fabricate and manufacture parts and equipment; utilize portable machinery, hand tools and measuring instruments found in a machine shop to perform work outside the shop.
