Kareem serves as the Director of Outdoor Education at Camp Beech Cliff on Mount Desert Island, having joined the team in the spring of 2023. A native of New Hampshire, he has been an avid outdoorsman all his life, with a professional journey in outdoor leadership that began in 2013. He has led everything from extended expeditions to day trips. As a first-generation U.S. citizen, Kareem brings a unique perspective and a wealth of wilderness expertise to his role. Since 2019, he has been guiding on Mount Desert Island.Kareem holds several certifications. He is a Registered Maine Guide, licensed through the State of Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife, specializing in outdoor recreation and sea kayaking. He is also a Certified Wilderness First Responder, a Certified Wildlife Tracker, and a Youth Mental Health First Aid Instructor. Alongside these credentials, Kareem serves as an active Soldier in the U.S. Army Reserve.Kareem and his wife, Taylor, are year-round residents of Pemetic, Mount Desert Island – traditional Wabanaki Ancestral Homelands. They share their home in Bass Harbor with their French Bulldog and two fat cats.Kareem’s commitment to the community extends beyond his role at Camp Beech Cliff. He serves on the Board of Directors at the Schoodic Institute and Expedition.Life, and is a committee member on the American Camp Association New England’s DEIB Committee, Friends of Acadia’s “Acadia for All” DEIA Task Force, and Tracker Certification North America’s Access Committee.When not guiding, creating youth adventure programs, managing the challenge course, or developing Junior Maine Guides, Kareem immerses himself in the outdoors. He trains for ultramarathons on the mountain trails of Acadia National Park, sea kayaks along the rugged Maine coast, and delves into the study of natural history and indigenous cultures.
