About Kareem Hussein

I'm a biomedical engineer – with a love of tinkering (CAD modeling + Python programming) – excited to learn and apply my knowledge & skills to the medical device industry, including design and development for brain-computer interfaces (BCIs).Experience includes (but is not limited to) - product design and development (prototyping, market research, FMEAs), - research (literature searches, design and execution of experiments, grant writing), - organization and communication, and - CAD modeling.During the COVID-19 pandemic, I continue expanding - my learning of CAD/CAM skills, programming languages and services (Processing, Python, Google Cloud Platform), and - developing my knowledge of the DMAIC improvement cycle for Six Sigma projects.

Conducted brainstem neurophysiology experiments to prove that suppressive non-linearities in the cochlea lead to a neural correlate of comodulation masking release (CMR) in the auditory nerve (AN). CMR is a mechanical phenomenon enabling animals to tag and cancel noise, improving signal detection. There is proof this occurs in the furthest part of the auditory system (i.e. the AN), meaning all of the relevant neural information is already present at the brain's input; the brain doesn't have to work as hard to process sounds of interest and noise.
