2024 Update:I’ve retired from a rewarding 20 years at CSU. Thank you to all the talented and resilient colleagues and students I was honored to have worked with. Now: forward to the future that is always an adventure!I’ve dedicated my career to scientific discovery and communication, and helping diverse audiences learn and teach science. Research spans the realms of plant health and pathology, microbial biology and environmental influences on forests, managed landscapes and people, especially in urban areas. Expertise in rigorous scientific practices including statistical analyses and technical writing and editing is combined with creative and out-of-the-box thinking to form the basis of my achievements. However, whether in higher education, not-for-profit or government sectors I have found that a core element of success has been my ability to communicate and collaborate with people. These skills were instrumental in the coordinator and leadership positions I have had involving design and assessment of educational and outreach programs. The audiences I have targeted range from traditional and non-traditional undergraduate students, K-12 teachers, to community and adult learners. I've also had ample teaching experience myself of both science and science education/teacher preparation subjects. In all cases I model pedagogical best practices and increasingly incorporate E-learning. I aim to continue helping diverse audiences learn through the strategic use of quality online technologies.Expertise:Higher education: STEM teaching and learning; e-learningK-12 Science Teacher Preparation and Professional DevelopmentTraditional and Non traditional students; adult learners Program development and assessmentCommunicationGrant writing, technical writing and editingCommunity outreach and environmental stewardship Urban ecology and agricultureUrban forestry and plant healthMicrobial pathogens
