Karen Kamauff DeVore is the Executive Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Administration for Garrett County Public Schools. She has been an educator in public schools in Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia for more than 30 years. She began her career as a special education teacher and remains passionate about equitably serving all students. Prior to assuming her current administrative role, Mrs. DeVore was a special education facilitator, coordinator of gifted and talented programs, and a principal at both the elementary and middle school levels. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Frostburg State College, a Master of Arts degree from West Virginia University and a Master of Education degree from Frostburg State University. Mrs. DeVore is a member of the TGCC Education and Workforce Development Work Group, through which she participated in Western Maryland’s Tackling the Opioid Crisis: A Community Resilience Approach grant opportunity. She is currently completing certification and serves in a leadership capacity and a liaison for education with the Center for Mind, Body Medicine. Her family battled addiction for many years and found recovery when her son learned about an ibogaine clinic in Mexico. Karen offers independent support to families going through addiction because none was available when her family needed it. She is passionate about helping others and paying it forward, traits she learned from her late mother, Sue Cerutti.
