Sustainability makes good business sense as much as it makes good news, and a well-managed sustainability program with cutting-edge, end-to-end waste reduction and energy efficiency strategies, impacts bottom-line results.In my roles with Whole Foods Market, I partnered with internal stakeholders to create scalable business models with systems for sourcing, production, and the delivery of measurable results. Measurable results, as in sales-driving public relations, profitable third-party partnerships, and significant savings in waste, utility payments, and energy. I developed tracking and monitoring systems when I reconfigured the organization’s daily food donation program to realize a significant tax credit for the company with over 3M pounds donated yearly – just for our region. Because I stay up to date on emerging technologies and programs in the waste reduction industry, I was able to identify and partner with several different vendors, to improve our waste diversion by 15%; some of this came through a program we rolled out in 24 stores. My strong operations background enables me to assess programs from a variety of angles, leading to increased success in implementation. I offer expertise in creating an internal and external vision of sustainability, driving community and marketing outreach as well as internal messaging that influences and supports a growing, attentive culture. Through meticulous program management, I’m able to create buy-in, develop training, and even put a name to our efforts, as I did for the Zero Waste Day program at Whole Foods. Sustainability And Maintenance Coordinator - North Atlantic RegionWhole Foods Market Sep 2018 - Apr 2020MassachusettsIn this role, I successfully merged facility maintenance and energy efficiency programs with ongoing food waste and sustainability efforts, executing additional strategy to optimize energy usage for 42 stores and 2 facilities. I tracked, monitored, and assessed physical plant issues, energy usage, and prioritized capital projects, operational changes, and upgrades. I designed support and coaching programs for maintenance team members including monthly calls, semi-annual in-person meetings, toolkits, and resources. I negotiated contracts for maintenance and waste vendors, managed bid processes, and held regular strategic meetings with vendors to establish and continuously maintain a 5-year infrastructure upgrade priority list. I orchestrated internal stakeholder collaborations, determined appropriate vendor partners, and designed store green teams to enhance knowledge base, deliver on and champion organizational initiatives. I sourced, prioritized, and gained approval for sustainability programs and policies, developed KPIs to measure success, and monitored the collection of data to determine program performance.
