I am a work in progress, and I’m proud of it. While some might interpret this phrase negatively (as I might have years ago), to me, it signifies my commitment to proactively seeking opportunities to learn, grow, and change. This journey isn’t always easy, but if we aren’t truthful with ourselves, how can we genuinely show up for others?I married my high school sweetheart, and together we’ve created countless cherished memories, weathered life’s storms, built a beautiful family, and pursued his entrepreneurial dream of building a successful business. Throughout this journey, I’ve worn many hats: I worked in banking, was a buyer for a women’s clothing store chain, ran a drug testing business with my amazing father-in-law, taught an after-school program for at-risk fourth graders, handled financials for our new business in its early years, became a stay-at-home mom, and eventually returned to our business full-time, ultimately becoming a partner.One of our greatest adventures together happened shortly before my husband became ill. We joined Team CycleBreakers to participate in the Ride for Hope Lake Victoria in Sub-Saharan Africa—a 600-mile bicycle ride from Kampala, Uganda, through Kenya, to Mwanza, Tanzania. This event supported the work of Christ's Hope International, raising funds and awareness to transform the lives of orphaned and vulnerable children affected by AIDS in East Africa. Initially, I thought I’d volunteer to be part of a SAG van crew, handing out water and food to the riders. However, I ended up participating as a rider myself. While I spent some days in the SAG van, I still completed my share of miles.My history reflects my Enneagram type: I am a 6, The Loyalist, complemented by my Working Geniuses—Wonder (Ideation) and Enablement (Implementation)—with a dash of Discernment (Activation) and Tenacity (Implementation).
