About Karen Jex

Karen Jex is a Solutions Architect at Snowflake. She possess expertise in ims, sql, dbms.

I was lead DBA on 2 Oracle datawarehouse development projects where I demonstrated to the project managers and development teams the ways in which early DBA involvement can ensure the creation of robust, scalable and manageable databases. I designed and implemented processes for QA and change control of the data models and database DDL.I designed, implemented and documented processes to cover various day-to-day database activities including replication of database schemas for test purposes and the population and management of a central "database of databases". I project-managed and delegated to junior team members as required.I researched and tested many new features of the Oracle database and shared this knowledge with other team members through documentation and training. I extended this knowledge-sharing in 2016 by presenting at two UK Oracle User Group (UKOUG) events. The initial contract was extended a number of times and evolved to encompass a wide range of responsibilities within the DBA team including:- QA of first-cut logical data models- Use of CA Erwin Data Modeller and ModelMart to manage the data models- Generation, management and deployment of DDL in the various environments- Identification and resolution of issues with security, performance, space etc- Installation of Oracle software, configuration and creation of new databases- Developing, refining and implementing database standards and procedures- Resolution of production issues related to the organisation's Oracle, SQL Server and Sybase databases, including 24-hour support on a rota basis.- Review, enhancement and debugging of PL/SQL code used for various internal housekeeping tasks.
