Karen is a legal adviser on financial compliance and anti-money laundering (AML) matters, with a Master of Public Administration (MPA) and a Doctor of Law (JD) summa cum laude from Tecnológico de Monterrey. She is currently an associate at White & Case LLP, a global law firm that provides legal solutions to clients across various industries and regions.At White & Case, Karen focuses on the financial regulatory industry and advises financial and non-financial entities on their obligations and best practices in terms of AML prevention. She has extensive experience in assisting global and local financial groups, banks, Fintech, money transmitters, payment systems, and other financial intermediaries in obtaining the necessary authorizations to implement their business models in Mexico. She also helps non-financial entities in complying with the regulatory framework for AML. Before joining White & Case, Karen worked in the Mexican public sector at the Tax Administration Service and the Financial Intelligence Unit, where she dealt with various topics such as Authorized Economic Operator, international trade agreements, and administrative interpretation of the Federal Law for the Prevention and Identification of Operations with Illicit Resources. She also participated in the design and implementation of the "Guidelines for the Filing of Notices", issued by the Financial Intelligence Unit for non-financial entities and professions. Karen is certified by (i) the National Banking and Securities Commission to act as a compliance officer and auditor of Mexican financial institutions in AML matters, and (ii) the Financial Intelligence Unit in topics of Vulnerable Activities.
