My career in occupational therapy spans over four decades. I am the Associate Dean of Digital Learning & Innovation, Program Director of the post-professional doctorate in OT program & Clinical Professor at Boston University’s Sargent College of Health & Rehabilitation Sciences. I played a role in advancing backpack safety through AOTA’s National School Backpack Awareness Day & in promoting the recognition of occupational therapy through OT Global Day of Service. As a Fellow of AOTA, the Human Factors & Ergonomics Society & the International Ergonomics Association, I have been recognized for my contributions as a scholar, professor, advocate, & mentor in occupational therapy, ergonomics, online education, artificial intelligence (AI), entrepreneurship and mentorship. I have held leadership roles as the president & vice president of AOTA & received awards such as a Fulbright Scholarship & the Eleanor Clarke Slagle Lectureship Award. I am founding editor-in-chief of WORK: A Journal of Prevention, Assessment & Rehabilitation (workjournal.org).I am a past president and Vice President of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) and a 2005 recipient of a Fulbright Scholarship to the University of Akureyri in Akuryeri, Iceland. I earned a doctoral degree at the University of Massachusetts, a Master of Science in occupational therapy at Boston University, and a Bachelor of Arts at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri.
