Karen developed with several teams, from the ground floor, Virtual Radiologic's (vRad's) corporate compliance program and the administrative components of its information privacy and security (HIPAA) processes. (vRad is a medical device manufacturer, a physician practice manager, a family of affiliated radiology practices with onsite and offsite capabilities, and a licensor of proprietary technology doing business internationally and across the US).Her passion for compliance in the broadest sense of the word encompasses honoring contractual commitments; adhering to quality standards and related processes related to patient safety; application of international, federal and state regulations; and promoting a culture that makes ethics a normal part of everyone's day-to-day work. Karen is active in training, investigation, development of corrective action plans and reporting (internal and external). Her work is necessarily collaborative and consultative. Karen is also responsible for managing government and non-governmental contracting, vendor, and IT licensing contracting processes, which ultimately enable vRad to touch the lives of over 5 million patients a year. Recipient of vRad's "Above and Beyond"​ award and President's award.

Karen created Milestones Consulting to market her capabilities following a career jump from the manufacturing business she co-founded to a career that called upon the skills she learned as a leader, manager, and entrepreneur. Projects she was recruited to complete include: Business Analysis and Finance:o review cost and market assumptions and generate a cash-flow projection for a pre-revenue company; o create model for forecasting sales revenue, commissions and sales staffing requirements for a professional training program;o fulfill ongoing accounting (bookkeeping, analysis and reporting) needs of promotional products company. Marketing:o design and produce website for specialty commercial contracting company;o build and provide content for quarterly business-to-business newsletter; o plan and execute a direct marketing campaign for a real estate and mortgage broker; o write a case-study for a software company selling business-to-business, secure rights to digital images used; Leadership/Sales:o chair a committee to recruit a national sales manager for a $3.5 million company Processes Upgrade: o establish procedures and develop written policies and processes for real estate broker with multiple agents.

Karen started Bench Dog with co-founder Norston Fontaine, grew it to $3.5 million in sales in a few years, then recruited, trained and transferred duties to new executive management. Karen and her partner also raised $1.2 million in hybrid financing.Bench Dog was a personal factory for Karen to learn hands-on about her own values and entrepreneurship; the consumer products’ industry; manufacturing; inventory management; domestic and international sourcing; business fundamentals (with and without cash); managerial accounting; developing (and redoing) projections; raising venture capital; managing national accounts (large and small accounts, including Lowes, TruValue); as well as managing sales representatives (in house and external); sales (business-to-business and business-to-consumer), B2B and B2C tradeshows; applying her JD to intellectual property and other legal matters; conducting product development and product management; human resources, including recruitment, hiring, training, compensation plans, benefits, employee counseling, and termination; and director-level administration, reporting and leadership. Karen was a corporate officer and Board Member.

Karen briefly helped dentists transition out of their practice, or acquire a practice, through all stages of the process (appraisal, negotiation, documentation, deferred compensation plans, buy-in/buy-out, and insurance).

Karen spoke with people in crisis or stress, assessing potential legal issues and providing one-on-one counseling on next steps. It was her goal to make sure everyone learned what options were realistically available. This one-on-one training was one of Karen's favorite aspects of her role, for once people were empowered with knowledge, they could take meaningful action to improve their situation.
