Karen Millican is a serial entrepreneur with experience founding and managing a variety of software, technology, IP, and investment management related businesses, as well as overseeing non-profit organizations. Currently, Karen is responsible for helping start up the for-profit arm of JoyDew’s hybrid social enterprise, which is committed to providing meaningful employment for adults with autism. This includes assisting in securing funding, ensuring continuous enterprise “vision lock”, and developing legal collaboration agreements to enable complementary activities in an economical and efficient manner. Karen is also responsible for all administrative and operational activities ongoing, with particular focus on the commercial operations. By establishing relationships with customers, partners, and investors, and the developing and implementing the organization’s marketing strategy, commercial opportunities are identified, contracted and delivered that leverage the “super-powers of members with autism.Prior to joining JoyDew, Karen founded Kenefick Investments, Massand Properties, and Kenefick Properties, and managed D&R Technologies, an IP-focused company, all of which she still has ownership in and oversees. Previously she was a board member and managing director of Litera Corporation, a global organization providing productivity and content risk management software to the legal, corporate and life science markets that she co-founded in 2001 and sold in 2017. She was also a founding executive of Skila, a software company serving the life science industry, Karen held various commercial and operational executive positions over the years. Before her position at Skila, Ms. Millican managed commercial operations for Salem Health Solutions, a healthcare analytics company. She also held various sales, management, corporate development and marketing roles at Johnson & Johnson's Ortho McNeil division, as well as at Dendrite, the world leader in client relationship management solutions for the pharmaceutical industry. Prior to her career in healthcare, Ms. Millican was a television news reporter and anchor for CBS and NBC news on the West Coast. She holds BA in Communications from the University of Washington, with post-graduate studies at Wharton and Harvard. Karen is also on the board of data analytics company Dr. Score, and web solutions Axxiem Corporation. Her current philantrhopic endeavors include BOD member of the Community Theater of Greensboro, Cor Vitae member of the American Heart Association and sponsor of Afghan refugees.
