Karen Clauson served as VP Associate General Counsel for a publicly traded company that in 2022 had more than 16,000 employees and almost $6 billion revenue, with services in 25 states. Karen negotiated strategic deals and led legal strategy for wholesale enterprise matters. Before that, as SVP General Counsel, Karen advised the Board and leadership on complex issues, including significant reorganizations, shareholder interplay, and ultimately a successful process for the $1.42 billion sale of the company. She managed more than three dozen litigation matters and multiple M&A matters involving significant legal and factual complexity. Earlier, Karen managed regional public affairs and litigated regulatory cases for MCI during a formative time in the industry, with passage of a key federal Act, and participated in shaping the competitive landscape going forward. Karen’s previous experience in private practice in the litigation department of Dorsey & Whitney came through in her in-house roles to the benefit of the companies. At Dorsey, Karen combined use of her Master’s degree in journalism with her legal education when representing television station and other clients. Karen is an Order of the Coif graduate of the University of Minnesota Law School. She is a former Adjunct Professor of the University of Minnesota Law School. She served as a Director on the Boards of the Minnesota Brain Injury Alliance and Minnesota Stroke Association. Karen is a committed and tenacious advocate. She is an excellent leader, manager, and mentor who brings out the best in those with whom she works.
